A Night Parrot record

I have been informed of a possible siting of 4 Night Parrots in Western
Australia and have spoken to the observer. Whilst I would not normally
place sitings of rare birds on Birding-Aus, I believe this is of sufficient
value to warrant an exception due to the circumstances of the record.

Pat McCann of South Australia works in the remotest parts of the country
installing solar power emergency phones. He is not a "birder" but seems to
know his birds and is adament that he saw 4 Night Parrots together; feeding
on the ground in spinifex country on 8 May 1996 in mid afternoon. His
description to me certainly seems to fit. And he knows all the parrots he
     normally sees.

The location is on private aboriginal land at Papulankutja Community - also
known as Blackstone (and south of Giles). It is due west of the WA/NT/SA
border junction and they were about 30M from the end of the landing strip.

As I said, the record is old, not confirmed and on private land but is
     still very interesting.
