The Birds Australia Parrot Association is now established and has brought
out the first (36 page) issue of it's newsletter 'Eclectus', which is
intended to be published twice a year. Although there are many
organisations interested in parrots in captivity, there are very few with a
focus on wild parrots, and BAPA is probably the only one with a primary
interest on the Australasian / Wallacean / south-west Pacific region.

Following an email committee meeting, it has been decided that there is a
need to increase the subscription rates from Jan 1997. If anybody is
thinking of joining up, the current introductory rate of $18 until the end
of 1997 ($15 for RAOU members), which includes Eclectus 1-3, ends at the end
of this year (maybe a good Christmas present for a psittaciphilic friend).
Expeditions and projects are being planned, as well as a web site, with an
update in Eclectus 2 (expected around March/April 1997).
