John Leonard wrote, concerning grasswrens: "I was wonderimg whether anyone can report that 'squeeking' with the mouth, or one of those little red things from the Audubon Soc ever gets them out." At Hattah Lakes N.P., I have seen grasswrens running between people's legs in response to the use of an Audubon squeeker. In fact, they were doing the "rodent run" with their tail down, etc, just as described in the various field guides. Given how difficult the birds usually are to find, I was quite stunned at the response. I'd urge some degree of caution about overuse of squeekers, based on the response by the birds that I saw.
