I saw two magpies this morning at about 6:20 am in the suburb of Hawker in Canberra, on the grassy verge on the side of the road. They were on the ground, sometimes warbling away together, sometimes appearing to groom the other, and then wrestling around, lying on the ground. They did this a couple of times, then got up and seemed to go about their business, still sort of in company. They appeared to be females, or perhaps immatures (at least not shiny white; beaks not very white if that means anything). I haven't seen this behaviour before. Can anyone give me a clue what they were up to?? Cheers ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// |
