I have had a Sigma 400 APO 5.6 lens for four years now and am very happy
with it. In good light it is very easily hand held and the 400 puts birds
right in the frame. It's restrictions are mostly with thornbill size
birds which, if you could ever get the birds to be still, are at best 1/4
frame because of the close focus limitations.
I have taken at least 1000 shots through it and I often fit a SB-24
speedlight flash to my Nikon 801s for poor light conditions.
I have lugged it on my shoulder to the UK, Venezuela, Malaysia, Arizona,
and outback and northern Australia. I damaged a locking ring part once
and it was $120 to fix and took 2 weeks.
