The Victorian Ornithological Research Group (VORG) is
currently conducting a survey on the 'handedness of
parrots'. The survey covers all parrots no matter
what their country of origin or whether they are wild
or captive.
The questions the survey is hoping to address are:
1. Do individual parrots show a particular preference
for which foot they use to hold objects?
2. Does a single species as a whole show a preference
for using one foot over the other?
3. If there is a preference within a species, is there
a difference from one species to another?
4. Are young birds more or less likely to show a foot
preference?
5. Is there a difference in handedness between caged and
wild parrots?
6. Is the foot preference linked to diet?
Survey and information sheets will be sent to anyone
interested in participating. If you are interested
please email me at giving your full
postal (snail-mail) address.
