Greetings All,
I have a of a dilemma and I'm hoping for some suggestions. I have a 7800 I
wish to use with gphoto2 and a camera. My board currently has sarge installed.
Sarge repositories have gphoto2 but it's an old version (like 2.1). That
version works but it lacks features I need.
I've already tried downloading and compiling the newest version of gphoto2.
This of course has dependencies that needed resolving and in the process of
compiling and installing those dependencies, I ran into one (and maybe more)
that depend on compiler flags that aren't available in the gcc version in Sarge.
I'm in the process of downloading the Etch image from EA, but I doubt Etch
repositories are going to get me a new enough version of gphoto2 and I know
they don't give me a new enough version of gcc. (I think I need 4+)
Trying to figure out what the most expedient option is to get to the ultimate
goal which is a newer (newest) version of gphoto2 installed on my 7800.
Do I:
- Try to get a newer gcc installed and continue down the path of compile libs
and software from source with Sarge
- Try to get a newer disty installed on the board and then just apt-get the
newer gphoto2 version I need
- Some other route which hasn't occurred to me.
If I'm going down the newer disty path, and Etch isn't new enough, can I keep
the kernel I have and just uncompress the new disty files, or am I still going
to have to compile a kernel?
Thanks for your help
Steve
