It's a binary stream coming from an RDI ADCP. The kernel I'm running was compiled for the TS-7500, but if that's the problem, it's the first I've seen.

Hi.

A while back, I wrote a small driver for Orbcomm modems. Turned out that when I calculated the checksum, instead of doing "256-", I was doing "255-". It might be a detail like that. What type of serial stream are you looking at? Is it some sort of OBD2 or GPS ASCII?

I used TS7200 with all kinds of RS232s, native and USB/Serial, and they worked great. 

 One more thing. Are you sure you don't have too much EM interference? This is highly unlikely, though.
