Is anyone on this list contemplating changes or perhaps completed
changes to the stock FPGA code supplied for the above combination?
I have a project that I'd like to put into the FPGA. Looking at the code
it appears that Technologic wanted to make a generic FGPA load that
would work across all its base-boards. I'm not sure how successful this
was, but I do know that it makes the FPGA pretty complicated.
Complicated means difficult to understand, difficult to modify, and
prone to errors.
So if anyone else is working on this perhaps we could cooperate in
making a custom load just for the 4700-8390 combo. Two objectives that
might make sense is fixing the signal directions on pins (since almost
all are buffered anyway), and making the signal names in the code match
the signal names on the 8390.
Another objective might be to rationalize the bit assignments in the CPU
registers. This would require a coordinated change in TS4700ctl as well,
so perhaps this one isn't worth the effort.
I have discovered that putting conditionals in the code rather than
configuring at run-time frees up a lot of FPGA space. Daah...
