We bought a Modbus library from Focus Software Engineering (an
Australian outfit) a few years ago. We've used it in several projects
and it seems to work fine. No royalties. We purchased a single-seat
server license for a couple of hundred dollars. Certainly less than
$500, I don't remember exactly. It's a C++ library, but easily callable
from C.
