Thanks for all the suggestions.
I got a USB flash drive partitioned and formatted EXT2, so I know I can
do that, no problem.
I think I'll re-do it with one large partition,plus a smaller "data"
partition. I can thnn mount the main partition R/O and the smaller one
R/W, no buffering, for the data files. If a power failure happens to
corrupt the data file system, I won't have lost much.
I can provide PC access to the data files either through Apache and some
PHP programming, or directly through Samba.
