The eclipse does not work for all boards but seems to work for yours. What always works is NFS. you can use multiple telnet sessions.  This make a poor man's development environment.

Using FTP integrates nicely with Eclipse, and Eclipse is fairly nice.
It's not Visual Studio, but it does quite well.
