The software interface is well documented:

You basically send it a "GetFeature" report, exactly the same as you would for
reading a mouse or keyboard. The code for Windows is very straightforward.
I seem to be stuck at that first stage of Linux not giving me a pointer or
(virtual filename) for me to play with. In Windows you have to go through some
simple process of enumerating the devices (unless you know the exact name or
code), but once you got it, it is very easy from then on.
