Take the included card reader and throw it away. I had the same problem.
Sometimes it would work, sometimes not. Sometimes I had to plug it in without
a card in it. Sometimes that wouldn't work either. I ended up springing for a
Dynex multi-format card reader.

GParted will tell you about the card. The Debian partition isn't very big
whereas the Eclipse partition is much bigger. You may want to repartition
things. But I do recommend not trying to compile stuff on the hardware.
Setting up a development environment on a regular computer is much faster.
Also, the fastboot partition is very tight on the number of files you can have.
I think there are two or three available file entries before you have to start
deleting things.
