I'm sure the reply was on topic and very informative (you know, the
whole lead a horse to water bit) but that's another story... Anyways, I
don't know of anyone who's built and distributed any webcam modules so
roll your own comes to mind. I think most people here are all running
different kernels, since TS was kinda late jumping on the 2.6 bandwagon
many of the people in the group got tired of waiting and did it
themselves. Building the kernel, or even modules, isn't hard, there's a
ton of messages in the archives about it and where to get more info.
Basically you'll need the source, a cross compiler, and a desktop to do
it all on. As for playing around and being worried about bricking your
board, just boot from NFS. Once you get a kernel and OS setup and
running you can commit it to flash.
As for your library issue, I'd guess that someone updated libc without
rebuilding the rest of userland. Check /proc/version on the two images,
you'll probably find their using different libc, binutils and gcc version.
