Would it be easier to apply Matt's patch to 2.6.34, then install the new 
driver(s) you need into the 2.6.34 kernel?  Not sure of your case, but most 
drivers are maintained somewhere else before they show up in the kernel tree; 
you could find your driver(s) for 2.6.34 and install it (them).
