1. Find Matthieu Crapet's patches for the linux kernel, apply them and so 
forth. I believe ynezz's patches were an interim thing.

2. Follow Martin Guy's recipe for getting Debian working:

Again, his website is down for me, but I assure you that recipe worked for me. 
It is dog slow over NFS, but much faster than me trying to build everything 
myself.

It's doable. I hope it solves your communications issues at the same time.

If TS doesn't have a solution for you, try a broader search: if it's a hardware 
or kernel issue, ep93xx is the magic keyword for the ts72xx boards.
