Hey all, nice mailing list!
We are newbies also, and after a week of hacking about various kernels and
boots, it is becoming clear to us via the TS-7260s that we bought for eval,
that a recent Debian version > 2.6.32 is not going to be easy to get to. We
are kind of stuck now, and would really appreciate some feedback about our
options, thanks.
So far can make these boot configurations "work":
1. flash TS 2.4.28
2. SD card deb 2.4.28 (because of the inability to revert, we bought two
TS-7260s)
3. TS 2.6.21, nfs (very unstable NFS: "not responding, still trying", then
"OK" ad infinitum hundreds of times, any thoughts?)
4. My cross-compiled custom kernel at 2.6.21 (note that Debian does not ship
wvdial for this version)
5. ynezz kernel (Thank you Petr): 2.6.33 kernel built out of oe/Angstrom (no
NFS problems with this boot, etc.same hardware!)
But there are many serious errors booting Petr's kernel on TS-7260, mtdblock1
IO error, etc.
Our system collects data from a 24bit ADC and forwards it over cel modem to
data centers. Our experience on x86 with USB dongle cel modems is that they
worked pretty poorly before Ubuntu 10.04 (2.6.32). Now we see that TS has some
PC104 cards that might allow us to use CDMA with Verizon in California, so that
opens the question up some.
CELL MODEM:
Right now our plan is to use wvdial and >2.6.32 and a dongle USB cell modem,
but we are open to other ideas.
TS states that their cel modem cards work with all Linux they supply, so that
might mean 2.6.21?
24BIT ADC
Our ADC comes in a USB configuration we'd like to use, but I think that takes >
2.6.28
There is an older parallel port version that can compile against 2.6.21, we
also bought TS-SER2 for this.
DESIRE:
To have a patched >= 2.6.32 Debian or oe (and we don't know oe yet). How much
trouble are we in?
THANKS!
- Clark
