ïSounds like you are trying to use a technique called bit banging. The
communication works like this:
:start-loop
- Clock signal set to logical 1
- Slave starts to do do the work it was built for and makes data
available for sending.
- Clock signal set to logical 0
- Master receives and processes data
goto start-loop
The explanation here is a bit too simplistic, but you can read more
about it at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bit-banging
and about how the clock works on a serial interface like SPI:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_Peripheral_Interface_Bus
Note the pictures about the clock signals and the different options that
may exist. It sounds like you need: CPOL=0 and CPHA=0
All the best,
Wouter
