You missed installing modules when you compiled your kernel: Issue "make modules_install" after building the kernel. Check the makefile though, to be sure they will go to the proper lib/modules/2.6.32.3-m directory of your rootfs. The makefile target will create the proper 2.6.32.3-m directory, you just need to point it to your ARM rootfs on your ubuntu host.
