I am attempting much the same thing.

Your problem below is most likely this: Your kernel can not find your root 
filesystem. In the case of my 7400 the base kernel does not have the SD kernel 
module compiled in so it can't look for it by default on the SD/CF (hda1 is the 
default location to look)

I have attempted to use the bootloader_static to point to an --initrd housed in 
the SD card (if you look for my previous message) to get around the problem of 
not having a MTD accessible with a root file system to no avail. I don't get 
the same message as you (my kernel seems to find my initrd), but I also never 
get to a login prompt.

I am also not able to get NFS to work due to various protocol errors that may 
or may not be my actual NFS server.

So, you need to give your kernel a root= directive of some sort and hope for 
better luck than I have had thus far. :)
