UBIFS[1] is filesystem, something like JFFS2. It's in kernel, so you would
need to enable it in kernel and rebuild your kernel to get support for it.
You would need to install user space UBIFS utils to get it working also.

mtdparts[2] is runtime NAND partition configuration option, it's kernel boot
option, command line.

Well, I'm using Openembedded[3] to build Angstrom[4] distribution (kernel and
filesystem) for my TS boards.

Coincidentally yesterday[5] I've sent series of patches which aims to update
support
for ts72xx boards in Openembedded, so soon it should be possible to build
2.6.24.7, 2.6.27.45 and 2.6.32.7 kernels for ts72xx boards using Openembedded.

I would like to mention, that it wouldn't be possible without hard work done
by ep93xx/ts7xxx kernel hackers.
