I think this would be really useful. I have a similar VM for another embedded 
board - it has everthing on it pre-configured. 

It doesn't have to be big - you could use a 'jeos' image with no GUI, the 
compiler and Vi, and you could also have the 'Full Monty' as we say in the UK 
:-) with eclipse, kde X, etc.

It would substantially lower the learning curve for many newbies to embedded 
development.

I'd be up to reviewing a copy when you're ready!
