IMHO, if you need swap on a TS system, you are using the board for more than you should

Ditto, if you absolutely need the swap space (native kernel compile or
something) then use a NFS share and create a swapfile. It will be slow,
but it won't damage your flash or SD card. Swapping to flash is almost
never a good idea.
