Hi,

I am a newbie, I have a TS-7260 and i need to run the 2.6 kernel. I would like to allocate the file system in the SD card.

I am plenty of fool questions:

1) i have read a lot of the history messages in the list and seems like to much people is having problems running kernel 2.6 + SD cards in a TS-7260.  Have someone be able to run kernel 2.6 using a SD card as root filesystem holder?

Yes; I am running a Debian 2.6 image using the instructions provided. There are a few warnings however - mainly NOT to use /dev/sda as the target for a dd - as this is your hard drive. Know that from experience :(

Essentially download the image, uncompress it and use dd to copy it to your SD card. You will need to run the utility, and yes, once you run it you can't go back. It made me nervious when I did it because it's not reversable, but it did work for me. After you dd the SD card boot from it on your TS-7260 to make sure it worked. After than you can use Gparted to resize it. You will need to install JFS on your Ubuntu PC however to enable the ability to use GParted to repartition.

2) i dont know if i am wrong, but i understand that by upgrading the bootloader i will not be able to run redboot again. is it right? Must i upgrade my bootloader?

This is correct - or at least the way I did it.

3) which kernel version and filesystem should i use?

I used the image pointed to in multiple posts on this list.

Now for the downside/warning.

I now have two debian images - the one that came with the board which was Debian Sarge (Kernel 2,4) and one I downloaded - Debian Etch or Lenny (2.6). The Sarge image will boot with USB enabled; and with a little work I got the wireless working. If I boot Lenny on the other hand the USB is disabled. I've beem trying to find a way to enable it - so more info to come once I've done this.

Now I'm not wanting to moan too much, but I've had a far more positive experience with Phidgets in terms of getting stuff done. They have just released a SBC that is similar in terms of hardware. Difference is they have a stack of software interface libraries for everything from C to Python to Java. I really like the TS-7260 Hardware, but its hard to justify spending so much time getting stuff to work that should have been there out of the box. How about some libraries rather than expecting developers to code low level access themselves? Sorry - rant over.
