what you need to do is to get debugging info from the ubuntu server

http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/dapper/man8/nfsd.8.html

The hold up is getting connected to the server.

leave the "no_root_squash" on the export, that is needed so root on the TS box can write to the nfs mount

Thanks, Charlie!

/etc/exports now has:
/home/craign 192.168.1.yyy(rw,sync,no_subtree_check,no_root_squash,insecure)

But
sudo mount -t nfs 192.168.1.107:/home/craign /mnt/backup -o nolock

still hangs. Is this hopeless?

Thanks,
Craig
