oh boy, Sorry to be a bit of a party pooper here. But from the questions
you are asking, you have a steep learning curve ahead. I'd hazard a guess
this really is not the right forum for asking such advice.
Why don't you start simpler? Hook up the microphone to a standard PC and
write your heart monitor for that platform. Do it on a linux based PC
desktop first. Then get your school to buy more appropriate hardware - one
with built-in audio and vga capabilities.
