I suggest you get the program AllImage
http://www.towodo.com/products/allimage/
This will allow you to back up your SD card on a windows machine.
Normally windows doesn't know anything about Linux file systems.
But this program will back up the whole SD card, similar to dd in linux.
It will also allow you to mount partitions, etc.
