Hi everyone.

Previously I was working with the Neo (OpenMoko) as a platform for a
robotics project I have been working on. The project is a small solar
powered autonomous boat. The Neo had some significant drawbacks
however despite being quite a nice package. Those limitations revolve
around power and USB issues (which are linked). Plus I wasn't really
able to run standard Debian - so installing Python and required
packages was a headache. GPS also required binary drivers rather than
a standard USB serial type interface.

So I have moved to the TS-7260. The TS-7260's ability to run directly
off 12v with a power draw under 50ma is a big plus, and the ability to
turn off USB and other power management features means I will be able
to reduce power consumption at night.

Now for some questions:

a) I've run the utility to boot off SD card and now boot off the 512MB
Debian (2.4) that was provided. In order to get python installed I ran
"apt-get update" to sync with the debian repo before trying "apt-get
install python" It didn't like this much - insisting I install a 2.6
kernel. I read that the 2.4 kernel provided is specially compiled with
some patches, so I didn't install 2.6, and thus the install of python
aborted. My question - what should I do to get python going without
breaking things?

b) I bought the wireless USB. When I run "insmod zd_b.o" and set the
ESSID using iwconfig it doesn't connect to my wireless router. My
other Linux PC's running ubuntu connect fine. To take encryption out
of the picture I disabled security, but it still didn't work. However,
if I move everything closer to the router the TS 7260 locks up -
meaning I'm logged in via RS232 and it just stops dead. The wireless
USB device starts to get hot, and power draw rises from about 100ma to
200ma. Why is it locking up? Are there any tricks to getting it
working on debian?

Thats about all for now. Apologies if this is in a FAQ somewhere.
