Is there anything else you can compile as modules instead of including in the 
kernel?  The more modules you have, the smaller vmlinux will be, and will be 
able to fit on there easier.

I don't know enough to say if resizing the partitions on the SD card will cause 
problems or not, but that may be another avenue that can be explored.  I 
wouldn't be the one to tell you what kind of problems you'd run into by doing 
that, though.
