Actually we're using a 2.4 kernel, and yes we do make a number of changes so it is not a stock kernel. It is possible that some of our changes had an effect on the yaffs functionality, but I do know that a search for "yaffs bad block problem" brings up a few hits in google, so we're not the only ones running into this.

I took a closer look at Gary's post and I see he built a custom 2.6 kernel, so I
can't comment on the state of the Yaffs filesystem he chose to use.
