Subject: [ts-7000] Huawei E226 HSPA Modem

Hi, Everybody!

I am trying to use a Huawei E226 HSPA Modem
(http://www.huawei. com/mobileweb/ en/products/ view.do?id= 282) with the
TS-7260. This is a quite popular HSPA (3G) modem being sold by
cellular operators (at least, in Europe, Asia and Latin America). It
is a USB 2.0 Full Speed device, working as an usbserial unit (vendor
= 0x12d1 product=0x1003) . It also has a small storage device which
contains the MS-Windows drivers and software. Many forums report
successful operation of this modem under several Linux flavors (for
example: http://wiki. debian.org/ Huawei/E220,
http://spo0nman. blogspot. com/2006/ 08/huawei- ec321-cdma- on-linux. html,
http://ubuntuforums .org/showthread. php?t=262867& page=8). Linux-
usb.org also reports the modem should already be supported by the
kernel.

The first problem I have found is that the 7260 becomes very unstable
just by plugging the modem in. The board reboots several times until
it finally gets to the login prompt. Once there, it may lock or
reboot again after several minutes with no other action from my side.

The second problem is that the dialer program (wvdial) is not present
in the board's ffs.

On the other side, /dev/ttyUSBn nodes are not created when I plug any
kind of usbserial device to the 7260. This could be related to the
bugs found in usbserial by other users of this forum.

FYI, my TS7260 has the factory supplied 2.4.26-ts11 kernel.

BTW, the modem performs flawlessly under Windows XP-SP2 in a machine
with USB2.0 ports.

Any ideas? Regards, Javier////
