I've been told that Cirrus has moved all their ARM support people to
their DSP group and will in the future rely on "third parties" to
support ARM software. The Cirrus rep used Atmel of an example of a
company that is using "third parties" to support their CPUs. I told the
rep it was nice that they hoped others would support their part, but
Atmel has a huge fan base with lots of web sites, while Cirrus has none
to speak of (Google AT91SAM9260 vs. Google EP9302). Marvell is also
pretty easy to work with if you can convince them (like Technolgic can)
that you are really ready to buy parts in 1000+ quantity.
Cirrus says they will continue to make the 93xx parts for the
foreseeable future - basically as long as people will buy them in
quantity without bugging them...
There was a 94xx series due out at the first of the year - it is now
deceased.
I have a live project that was based on the EP9407 planned for
production later this year that needed 6000+ parts and Cirrus lost it.
Marvell and Atmel are fighting my business now...
I wouldn't hesitate to buy TS-72xx series boards now, but I wouldn't bet
that I'll be able to in five years.
Sadly,
Bill.

Subject: [ts-7000] Future of cirrus arm chips?
Hi Folks --
I've heard that Cirrus sent a letter to their arm chip customers
outlining their plans for the cirrus arm chips. And now I
see posts from cirrus employees on cirrus forums saying "Cirrus is
out of the Arm business ..."[1], but I still haven't seen anything
official from Cirrus.
Anybody seen the Cirrus letter? Any idea on the longevity of the
ep9302 chip? Or the (not-yet-released) ep94xx?
The TS-7800 is looking better & better ...
regards, ........ Charlie
