Check pin 14. If you always see it high, even when you explicitly set it
low; this is a known bug. (I'm not sure how the bug would manifest with
the tolcd program though; I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work though.) You
will need to get an RMA and return your board to have the firmware
reprogrammed if this is the problem.

The data sheet "N/A" is referring to how the pin is being pulled, not the
functionality of the pin. I'll update the data sheet to include pin
functionality.

I got it working on my TS-7800 :-)
The comments in the sample code basically reflect observation and
measurements made directly on the TS-7800 and the LCD. As part of
troubleshooting you may want to check the voltages on the header and see
if they are what you expect.
