What is the proper way to automatically run my user program at boot
on a 7400?

I've been messing with the /etc/rcX.d files but I can't seem to get
the sequence I want, which is:

1) Go through the normal boot procedure.
2) Automatically log on as user xyz.
3) Run my program and display messages it prints on the console.
4) If I press ctrl-c, abort program and be at command line prompt.

Or alternately:

1) Go through the normal boot procedure.
2) Run my program and display messages it prints on the console.
3) If I press ctrl-c, abort program and be at a login prompt.

Any suggestions?
