The model I use is a panel mount industrial unit - modified Nagasaki 
LM-104T-ALU, which costs $500ish.

Another option would be to look on ebay for a 800x600 or 640x480 
touch monitor, which should cost less than $200, but I'm not sure on 
the serial/usb interface.

Whether you need a screen or not depends on your application. If you 
can connect your PC to it via ethernet you could implement a web 
based interface.
