Instead of wasting your time, try hitting Ctrl+C at the redboot prompt,
then type fconfig -l to see the default kernel cmdline.
What you should do, is copy the 'exec -c' line (remember to hit Ctrl+A,
W to turn line-wrapping on) and then alter the command so that it
contains 'init=/bin/sh' somewhere.
That way you can set the password initially with passwd. If you don't
want a password at all, then edit /etc/passwd*
If you still have problems, ensure that /dev/ttyAM0 is in /etc/securetty.
