A couple of notes:

1) all of the paths specified in the configure line should actually be 
/usr/local/jamvm

and

2) you will need zlib.h zconf.h zutil.h in your include search path when 
cross-compiling jamvm, and zlib.a libz.so  libz.so.1  libz.so.1.2.3 in 
your linking path. If this criteria is not met, jamvm will not be able 
to use a classpath that is compressed in a zip file.
