Small time builders in Toronto are a bit spoiled.  There's a little 
retail place downtown that sells sleeve-in-a-shell crimp-to-a-wire 
connectors for $.10 a pin.  PCB mount receptacles of the sort that 
would connect to our TS-7000 boards are in the half-a-buck range.  I 
can pick prototype quantities off the shelf, without knowing a part 
number.

Digikey seems to have a variety of the things you need from 
Molex/Waldom and others.  Make sure to call them "receptacles".
