Small time builders in Toronto are a bit spoiled. There's a little
retail place downtown that sells sleeve-in-a-shell crimp-to-a-wire
connectors for $.10 a pin. PCB mount receptacles of the sort that
would connect to our TS-7000 boards are in the half-a-buck range. I
can pick prototype quantities off the shelf, without knowing a part
number.
Digikey seems to have a variety of the things you need from
Molex/Waldom and others. Make sure to call them "receptacles".
Good luck, Mel.
