The problem behind this is resolved. At some point, very possibly in
the process of updating the TS-9441 and re-flashing the TS-7400, the
mac address in TS-7400 EEPROM was erased to FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF, which
is the ethernet broadcast address. I don't know what it was set to at
the factory, but setting it to a locally administered address
02:00:00:00:00:01 (for example, thanks, Wikipedia) has got NFS mount
operations working, along with other network operations which had
turned out to be broken (couldn't telnet in to the TS-7400, for example.)
Note that tsbootrom-update needs a bootrom option as well as a mac
address option. The command line was
./tsbootrom-update -f -m 02:00:00:00:00:01
leaving out the "-f" option led to an 8-second watchdog boot loop.
I say "very possibly during the process ..." because I have NFS server
syslogs of rejections from earlier in the day, when I was fighting
path discrepancies, and the lack of NFS version 3 support in one of
the servers. Later in the day, the syslog and messages files show no
NFS activity at all.
