Have you found
http://www.vanille-media.de/site/index.php/projects/python-for-arm-linux/
yet?  It's aimed at the ipaq, but looks like he has about five years
experience cross compiling python for arm.  All the packages are quite
fine-grained and separated, just pick what you want / need / have room
for.  Course you can't just drop in the 'ipk' packages (can you??),
but his build scripts are available & use openembedded build system.
