I have development boards for TI TLV320AIC28
and TLV320AIC33. They both have high power
outputs, ie can drive speakers directly, and also
have line and mic inputs etc. The codec chips
are 48-pin QFN, which is quite small.
Also, this is probably more than what you require,
but these codecs can also work with the class D
TPA2012D2 amplifiers, these are tiny 20-pin QFN
but are 2.1 watts output. I have the development
board for these also.
If size is really important, both the codecs and
the amplifier are available in BGA, though that
is more difficult to work with.
Another possibility, Cirrus just released a new
portable codec CS42L52 which is similar to the
older CS42L51 (those are small 32-pin QFP but
have no speaker driver). CS42L52 is simple
and small but I don't see them at digikey yet,
maybe you can get samples from Cirrus.
I'm a bit obsessed with audio codecs, working
with Cirrus, Texas Instruments, Wolfson Micro,
and probably others in the future.
48-pin QFN (like the TI TLV320AICxx) is quite
small 7x7 mm and the TPA2012D2 amplifier is
truly tiny like SMT capacitor tiny.
The new CS42L51 is even smaller 40-pin QFN
and 6x6 mm, but not sure on avail currently.
