It is "conventional" to put the actual start up scripts in the /etc/init.d
directory and put a soft link to the script from the /etc/rcN.d directory.

Is the file
/etc/sysconfig/ifcfg-eth0
there? It is on my ts7200, and that's where I've put in my fixed
networking details. There is another file
/etc/sysconfig/network_cfg
for some other networking details. Check out the /etc/init.d/network
script.
