Bas,

If you have installed to /usr/local/ (default configuration location)
you can immediately drop the following things:
/usr/local/lib/python2.5/test (20MiB on my x86_64 box. Similar on arm)
  /usr/local/lib/python2.5/idlelib (~3MiB)

Then drop all .a static link libraries:
  cd /usr/lcoal/lib/python2.5
  rm -rf `find . -name "*.a"`

Then strip all dynamic link libraries:
  for i in `find . -name "*.so*"`; do strip $i ; done

I would also recommend dropping the .pyc files, and .py files. When
you move your python application from your development board to your
production boards, you will need to provide the compiled, and optimized,
.pyo files:

rm -rf `find . -name "*.py"` # and repeat for .pyc

The final image should be quite small.

  Good luck,

    -Brett
