Replying to my own message here... I think I know how to bootstrap a
kernel using redboot (and it is well covered in the archives). I guess
the one thing i need is a kernel that has been compiled with the USB
storage support.

I can't really make sense out of all the images on the embeddedarm ftp
site. Does such a beast exist?
