none of this is at all specific to TS boards, it's all general stuff.
Have you configured /etc/resolv.conf in the debian image? It should have
entries pointing to 1 or more name servers. You don't have to have a name
server running on the local machine - though you could.
man esolv.conf on a fairly standard linux desktop for more info
or use google
