I am attempting to do the same with with ts11 and have run into the 
same issue.

I have managed to get a couple of camera grabs using spca5xx with 
ts11 but the image is partially corrupt and I often run into the same 
kernel panic as you.

I was wondering if you had made any more progress since this post ?
