This must be the number one FAQ as a searc hof past posts here would have
found.

If you do not want the getty process running on com2/ttyAM1 then configure
/etc/inittab  to stop it. Look for the line that initiates getty on the
line and comment it out with a '#'. Then kick the init  process, kill -1 1
should work.

With nothing else using the port it should be free for other application!
