The CPLD must be reprogrammed in order to use the RS-485 option, this is
not field upgradable. The RTC requires a software knock to be initialized,
you could upgrade the RTC yourself but you would need to write some software
to init the RTC. The RTC is a 24 pin through whole part. The temp sensor is
an 8 pin surface mount part.
