Hi. I'm using picocom (simpler alternative to microcom) with a TS11 
kernel (tsuart not as a module), and everything works fine in all 
three extra COMs. You can try shorting Tx and Rx together in your 
port to make a loop and test the echoed characters, thus eliminating 
any possible external problems.

PS: to exit picocom you must press CTRL+A and then CTRL+X. It took me 
a while to get used to do that. :P
